Learning a language is like watching a plant growing or paint drying. The increments are so small and progress seems so slow that you are not aware that you have made any improvement at all, but suddenly you find that you can understand and express yourself much more easily than you could six months previously.
We learn mostly by means of short amusing chapters about a mildly dis functional family which has been invented and written about.
