Monkton Nature Reserve will once again open especially for our members. Many of the activities offered in 2025 will be repeated: those led by volunteers at the reserve will include guided nature walks and pond-dipping. This year we plan to add a guided introduction to the artefacts in the reserve’s museum to the list. We will again be using the reserve’s contacts to offer nature bathing and sound bathing, Tai Chi and an activity which combines Art with Yoga.
Please note that some of the non-volunteer led activities such as nature-bathing, sound-bathing, Tai Chi and Art with Yoga might incur a small extra cost of between £5 - £10.
u3a-led activities will include two of Julian Lovegrove’s plein-air painting masterclasses, each in a different medium - watercolours in the morning and oils in the afternoon. Thea Arnold’s poetry group will again hold a poetry reading session. This year’s crafting activity, making a mini-junk journal, will be led by Caroline Manning.

Before our day at the reserve, you might like to explore both the Merlin app (for identifying bird calls) and the Obsidentify app (for identifying wild species of plants, fungi etc) – both are free.
It is not too early to book your day at the reserve. Please use the link in blue above to send an email to let the Comms team know which of the activities you would like to take part in and we will do our very best to accommodate you.
The café and the bookshop will be open throughout the day. Please bring along your own picnic lunch.
Parking at the reserve is restricted, so we will again be looking at car-sharing wherever possible.
